Churches in La Salle
Parish Church of San Cassiano
The earliest historical records of the parish church of San Cassiano date back to pastoral visits between 1413 and 1416, but nothing remains of the church from that period, as in 1846 the church was rebuilt and considerably enlarged to accommodate the large parish community. In order to preserve its memory, the old parish church is depicted in the painted medallion in the centre of the present 19th-century triumphal arch.
The imposing, richly decorated church has three naves divided into four bays and numerous altars. The main altar, dating from the 19th century and made of polychrome marble, is surmounted by a painting by the painter De Giorgi depicting the glorification of the Virgin with San Carlo Borromeo and Santa Teresa d’Avila, donated in 1848 by King Charles Albert of Savoy to the parish of La Salle. Another painting of particular significance for the community is the 18th century painting of Blessed Innocent V Pope, who, according to an ancient tradition, was born in La Salle in the 13th century. The church houses a permanent museum of sacred art in which numerous objects of notable historical and artistic value are conserved, also from the chapels located in the villages belonging to the parish territory.

Churche of Sant'Orso in Derby
The beautiful parish church of Derby, dedicated to Sant’Orso, undoubtedly one of the most loved and venerated saints in the Aosta Valley, has maintained its original charm over the centuries. Probably built between the 11th and 12th centuries, the primitive church in the village of Derby was then rebuilt in the 16th century and consecrated on 22nd July 1567 by the then Bishop of Aosta, Monsignor Ferragata.
The structure, which still has the original suggestive ribbed vaults, has a Latin cross plan. Noteworthy are the stone baptismal font with the Savoy coat of arms and the small parish museum which, in a case built into the wall, preserves interesting works of sacred art and precious liturgical objects.
The high altar is surmounted by a wooden crucifix dating back to the 15th-16th century.
