Maison Gerbollier
Maison Gerbollier has been carefully restored to become the prestigious seat of the town hall of La Salle, whereas it was originally the turreted residence, with agricultural outbuildings, of the noble Viard family, first mentioned in a 13th-century document in which they are described as “men of loyalty to the Savoy”. Towards the middle of the 15th century, their descendant Antoine dissipated a large part of the estate and married off his daughter Etiennette to Pierre Gerballa of Valgrisenche, who had already acquired some of Antoine’s property. The Gerballa family became the Gerbollier family and remained the owners of the building for the following centuries until, in 1859, Cassien Joseph Gerbollier generously bequeathed it to the community of La Salle.
The complex, of medieval origin, consists of several buildings surrounding an inner courtyard, which can be accessed through a magnificent arched stone portal. Some of the door and window profiles in the old body of the house have shapes that recall the splendour of the structure in the 16th century, while the beams of the other buildings show how the rural complex underwent major transformations between the 18th and 19th centuries.
