Tor Avril
The Tor Avril is part of the “Tor a pia” (Tour on foot) project started years ago by three passionate trailers who have recovered old tracks, sometimes unmapped, but full of history and nature. Created as training trails for trail running races, they can be walked at any speed. The proposed route follows that of several paths marked with the classic yellow colour, a detailed description is available at www.torapia.com.
The route covers the municipalities of La Salle, Avise and Saint-Nicolas. The departure is from Derby, just after the crossroads on the state road. Following the signs of the Balteo Path, a 3 in an inverted triangle, you reach the abandoned village of Veulotta from where you continue towards the village of Runaz. From here the route moves to the other side, crosses Avise and go up to Saint Nicolas. Stop and take a look around the villages, observe them well, in each one you will discover signs of the long history that characterises these villages. Slowly return towards La Salle, walking first on the side of ru Charbonniere and then again through very characteristic villages such as Vedun. From here, following the first part of the Salassi trail (n°1), go down to Moras and then back to Derby. On this route it will be difficult to separate the history and culture of the human from the nature in which he is immersed.
Note: on the website www.torapia.com you will also find variations to the main route that will let you discover other historical villages such as Leverogne and Rochefort in the commune of Arvier, hamlet Cerlogne in the commune of St.Nicolas (and also discover Ru Clavel).
